Sweden WRC: Paddon closes on Ogier as Meeke crashes
Sebastian Ogier continued to hold first place at the end of Rally Sweden's Day 1, which concluded with the repeat of the three morning stages. However, the Frenchman failed to add more stage wins to his hat-trick from the morning, as first Kris Meeke and then Hayden Paddon shone in the afternoon runs. Meeke climbed up to the overall second place after his win in SS7 - only to retire in the following stage with a crash similar to that which had ended his victory bid in Monte Carlo. SS8 and SS9, as such, proved Paddon's domain, the Kiwi recording his first stage wins with the new Hyundai i20 and moving up to second overall from seventh at halfway point of Day 1.
